Your 2025 Checklist for Choosing the Right Egg Donor with MyEggBank
by MyEggBankin Learn About Egg DonationJanuary 31st, 2025
Starting your family through egg donation is an exciting and life-changing decision. As you embark on this journey, it's important to set clear goals, explore your options, fully understand the process, and prepare your finances. At MyEggBank, we’re here to make finding your ideal egg donor and receiving their eggs as simple, seamless, and stress-free as possible.
Define Your Goals
Before you begin the search for your ideal egg donor, it’s important to outline your goals. For example, you and your partner (if applicable) should determine whether you want to use fresh or frozen eggs. Eggs in fresh cycles are fertilized directly after retrieval while eggs in frozen cycles are already cryogenically preserved from donors. Both options have the same cumulative pregnancy rates per patient, but many intended parents opt for frozen eggs because they don’t have to time their cycle with that of the donor.
Review Your Options
Many intended parents wish for their children to resemble them or to have specific physical characteristics. Before reviewing potential egg donors, you and your partner (if applicable) should create a list of the physical traits that are most important for your future child, as well as those that are less significant. Egg recipients should also consider a potential donor's background when making their selection, including traits such as education, career, skills, talents, personality, religious beliefs, etc.
Understanding the health of your egg donor is also crucial. At MyEggBank, we require all donors to submit their family medical history going back three generations. Additionally, donors undergo screenings for infectious diseases, chromosome testing, and a comprehensive physical examination.
Understand the Process
Once you select a donor, you will purchase their eggs, and MyEggBank will ship the cryogenically preserved eggs or embryos to your chosen fertility center. There, the eggs will be thawed and fertilized with the sperm of your choice. After fertilization, the resulting embryos will be transferred into the uterus of the intended carrier. A pregnancy test will be conducted approximately two weeks after the implantation to determine if the transfer was successful.
Prepare Your Finances
The cost of using an egg donor depends on various factors, including whether you use a fresh or frozen cycle (frozen is generally less expensive) and how many cycles it takes to achieve a pregnancy. At MyEggBank, we offer financing options and assurance programs to give our patients peace of mind. Financing options include loans and customized payment plans. Our assurance programs include our Live Birth Program, which provides up to three (fresh or frozen) donor cycles for a one-time fee.
